Reviewing The Keto Diet

In this post I’m going to look into what the keto diet is and it consists of. This diet sounds too good to be true because your still allowed to eat cheese !! This low calorie diet can help you lose up 2 pounds of weight a week.

What is the Keto Diet ?

The keto diet is a very low carb, high fat diet and these qualities share a lot of similarities with the Atkins low car diet.

It revolves around decreasing the carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat and by doing this it puts you body into a metabolic state called ketosis. When this occurs your body becomes very efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver and this can supply energy to the brain. Ketogenic diets can cause massive reductions in blood sugar and insulin levels. This, along with the increased ketones, has numerous health benefits.

What Can You Eat ?

With the keto diet having such a high fat intake, people must eat fat with every meal. In a daily 2,000 calorie diet that could look like 165 grams of fat. However this ratio can depend on your particular needs.

Foods that you can eat on the keto diet :

  • Healthy fats such as; nuts, seeds, avocados, tofu and olive oil
  • Some saturated fats; palm oil, coconut oil, lard, butter and cocoa butter
  • Protein is a huge part of the keto diet and it the best is to eat high in saturated fat like beef, pork and bacon
  • Fruits are rich in carbs but you can have certain fruits in small portions like berries.
  • Vegetables are restricted to leafy greens (such as kale, Swiss chard, spinach), cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, asparagus, bell peppers, onions, garlic, mushrooms, cucumber, celery, and summer squashes.

Should You Try The Keto Diet ?

If you’re wanting to lose weight you should be aware the keto diet requires you overhaul the way you would normally ear. Which is why it may be worth trying the keto diet if your are looking into losing weight.

To be on the safe side though it is always best to discuss with your doctor whether the keto diet is right for you because this diet does drastically change your eating habits. While the keto diet does have links to medicine it is still a very new and not every doctor understands all the effects.

I personally would definitely try the keto diet as I like what you can and can’t eat. From everyone I have seen go on the keto diet have always had great results and they didn’t fault it.
